Okay, I've been digging in my heels and refusing to think about fall decor for the past couple of weeks. My mantra has been, Fall doesn't officially arrive until September 22! Winter will be here soon enough so please......don't rush it!
I felt like the retail stores were pushing me into the season several weeks ago. I don't like to feel pressured, but of course I put the pressure on myself.
And then it hit me! After looking at gorgeous fall decor on several blogs, my mind began spinning with ideas to decorate a bit differently from the normal fall colors. It also took a couple of summer nights of crisp air for my body and mind to get into gear. After all, if I'm going to get all this stuff out, I want to enjoy it for a few weeks.
So I trekked down to the basement to retrieve some of my old paint and opened all my bins of fall decor. I got everything ready and spent the afternoon painting at my kitchen table with this gorgeous view from my doorwall!
I don't have a formal dining room. I have a galley kitchen with a eat-in area that serves as our dining room. It opens out onto my covered patio. I do, however, have a great view to open fields that go for miles in each direction!
We've had 2 little fawns visiting for the past couple of months. This one still has it's spots if you look closely. They come each day to pick apples from the apple tree. Yesterday, a huge buck sauntered through. By the time I fetched my camera, he was gone.
Okay, enough of the back story. It's pumpkin painting time!
My first painted pumpkin. I think I'm going to really like this.
It's looking good.
Next up, my little pumpkin lamp.
I love the new look!
Here is a view from my very tiny foyer that opens to the living room and the kitchen.
Okay, I think I need to take the beach photos off the mantel.
What do you think of the witch cameo profile? She's not in the usual oval shape, but she looks just fine in the vintage tin frame. Miss mermaid is sporting a witches hat too.
This is a photo that I took walking the back beaches on Tybee Island, Ga.
I'm in love with vintage skeleton keys, birds, and vintage number tags.
The shelf gives me so many opportunities to display all my favorite things.
Now here is the farmhouse part........I love this cow, affectionately named Bessie. I found her in a little vintage shop while staying in Tybee Island, Ga. I thought it would be fun to decorate her for the fall season. After all, in my book, she's the best in show!
I'm just crazy about her! I don't know if anyone else will be as excited as I am.....but I'm extremely attached to Miss Bessie and think she looks grand with her homemade ribbon.
That's it. Thanks for visiting! So, are you a purist when it comes to fall decor? Do you prefer the traditional fall colors? Or do you change things up and go with different colors for your fall theme? Come on back, I'm sure I'll be changing things as the official fall season begins!
And.......what do you think of Bessie the cow?
I'd love to hear from you and hope you come back for a visit.
